Before cleaning the hardwood floor:

You must take into consideration, the type of wooden surface you are dealing with, as there are many different methods of cleaning wood. There are coarse wood surfaces, painted wood floors, and processed wood floors.

Basic cleaning:

Cleaning wood must be done using a dry cloth (preferably made of cotton or soft fibres), smoothly passing it over the entire floor. Use a brush to clean the openings and narrow places. You can also use a vacuum cleaner if it is fitted with a special attachment for wood cleaning. For any small stains, you can use a damp cloth with a little bit of water.

Cleaning wood using vinegar:

Using vinegar to clean pure wood flooring a very bad idea, it will leave stains such as those resulting from the use of water, and the acidity of vinegar is able to remove or scrape some types of insulation coatings for wood.

You can use vinegar but in a different way. Mix equal of vinegar and olive oil on painted wooden surfaces do, you'll get the cleanliness of vinegar, and lustre of oil, while maintaining the floor and isolating it from water absorption. Passed a dry cloth over the floor afterwards to remove excess solution for better results.

For laminate flooring you can add a cup of vinegar to the cleaning bucket (when using a store bought floor cleaning product) to double the strength to get rid of tough stains

Do not leave water to dry on the floor as it can leave unpleasant stains from evaporation. Once you clean the floor use a dry cloth to remove any water before drying.

Using commercial cleaners:

If you did not purchase a custom wooden floors commercial detergent, you should take that into consideration from now on, as it gives good results and forms a protective layer on the surface. Protecting it from external factors such as water and sediment. Add 50ml to approximately 8 to 10 litres of water and mop the cleaner onto the whole floor, removing any excess liquid.

Remove fat and grease spots:

This is a simple trick for removing grease stains from floors and is especially useful in kitchens. Simply cover the stain in an ample amount of talcum powder and then cover it using paper towel. Once the talcum powder has absorbed the stain you can remove it from the floor by either sweeping or vacuuming the area.

Treatment of cracks and scratches:

Light scratches require a different repair approach from deep scratches. For light scratches, lightly rub fine steel wool over the scratch. Be sure to rub the steel wool along the grain of the wood or you’ll have more scratches to repair.

For deeper scratches, use lightweight sandpaper on the scratch. Rub mineral spirits over the area to smooth it out and to pick up the fine dust from the sanding. Fill the scratch with premixed wood filler.

Sand the filler and wipe up all the dust. Refinish the board with varnish, polyurethane, or a similar product to match the rest of your floor.
