Product questions

What is Laminate / Vinyl / Engineered Wood / Parquet?
  • Laminate flooring is a cheaper alternative to real wood. Layers of wood fibres are laminated together, providing exceptional strength and durability. It is ideal for high traffic areas that face extensive wear and tear.
  • Vinyl flooring is a stylish, low maintenance and durable alternative to natural wood or stone floors. Floorworld’s vinyl tiles are composed of layers of Virgin PVC fused together under high pressure and finished with a protective UV coating that prevents damage or fading. It is 100% waterproof, non-slip, scratch resistant, quiet under foot and looks and feels extremely realistic. The glue down version, Luxury Vinyl Tiles, have been well-known for several decades. Recent innovations in thickness and the addition of a click profile have enabled a floating floor installation. This is known as Vinyl Click and has quickly gained popularity around the world.
  • Engineered wood flooring is constructed from three layers of compressed timber and finished with a top layer of genuine Oak/Walnut solid wood. Engineered wood provides the natural look and feel of wooden flooring with the advantage of added durability and easier maintenance.
  • Parquet flooring is made up from individual wooden blocks which are fitted together in a decorative parquet pattern.
What is the difference between Parquet and Engineered Wood?
  • Parquet flooring is composed of wooden blocks arranged in a mosaic or geometric pattern (such as herringbone or chevron). Engineered wood is made from multiple opposing layers of compressed timber with a solid wood veneer (top layer).
  • Parquet refers to how the pieces of wood are laid out to create the floor, whereas engineered wood refers to how the individual pieces of wood are made. Parquet flooring can be made from solid wood or engineered wood.
What is the difference between Laminate and Vinyl flooring?
  • Laminate flooring is made of compressed wood fibre or HDF (high density fibreboard) while vinyl flooring is made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride), a plastic polymer. Both are available in a range of lifelike wood designs, and both are very durable, but vinyl is the best flooring for bathrooms and kitchens as it is 100% waterproof.
What is the difference between Luxury Vinyl Tiles and Vinyl Click?
  • The Luxury Vinyl Tile collection on our website use a glue down installation method, while the Vinyl Click utilises a click and lock installation (without glue or adhesive). The thickness of Vinyl Click is generally 4mm or 5mm, while the Luxury Vinyl Tile (Glue down) is 2mm or 3mm.

  • Vinyl tiles (found under the Luxury Vinyl Tiles and Vinyl Click tabs on our website) are perfect for kitchens and bathrooms – they are all 100% waterproof and non-slip. Our Quick-Step laminate collections (Eligna and Impressive) come with the Hydro Seal technology, making them another great option.

Do your vinyl (LVT) floors contain any harmful chemicals that could pose a health risk to my family?
  • All our LVT products from Gerbür and Amtico are rigorously tested throughout the entire manufacturing process to ensure they achieve the globally recognised Floorscore Certification. Floorscore is a certification administrated by SCS Global Services that ensures all certified products meet strict indoor air quality requirements. What’s the best alternative to natural wood for a kids room?
  • If you’re looking for something a bit more affordable and resilient than natural wood, but still very comfortable, waterproof laminate floors are a great way to go. Laminate is made from wood resin, so it has the same natural warmth as wood. While this used to mean the same weaknesses to water damage, new technologies like Quick-Steps Hydroseal are solving this problem.
What floor will be the easiest to clean if I have kids and pets?
  • If you want something that you can use throughout your house without needing to worry, SPC is a is your best bet. SPC, or Stone Plastic Composite, has an incredibly tough surface that can take lots of wear and tear without denting or scratching. You can also clean it with mechanical washers and steam cleaners, which makes it fantastic for big areas.
Is it safe to get a carpeted floor if I have pets?
  • Polypropylene carpets are a great option if you have pets. Polypropylene is extrusion dyed, meaning the colour is integrated into the yarn, not added afterwards – so it never runs. You can clean polypropylene carpets with bleach, and they don’t absorb any water, so pet piddles aren’t a concern!
I have a pet but don’t want clean constantly to keep my floor looking good. What are my options?
  • Medium colours are generally the best compromise (dark floors show fur the most fur, while light floors show dirt the most). Low sheen floors are advisable because they don’t show scratches and dust as quickly as glossy floors. Finally, choose a floor with square edges rather than bevels, since those trap dirt and will be harder to clean.
What should I consider when choosing a bedroom floor?
  • If you’re on budget, then laminate floors are always a good option – warm, comfortable underfoot, and plenty of style options. If you’re willing to invest in a premium floor, it’s difficult to beat natural timber – whether parquet or engineered wood. In terms of colour, cooler tones are more tranquil, while warm tones are more vibrant, so this is purely a matter of preference.
Why does everybody recommend vinyl for bathrooms?
  • While occasional spills are the main concern for most rooms, bathroom floors get wet all the time, and must deal with stream and residual damp. Whereas some other floors have water resistant coatings, vinyl floors are 100% waterproof, from top to bottom. Plus, you can still get many realistic wood and stone imitations, so you aren’t limited to tile aesthetics.
Can I get a wood floor for my kitchen?
  • Generally, unless you’re a neat cook and don’t have kids, wood floors aren’t a great idea of kitchens
    – especially when it comes to liquids like wine, coffee or anything with colourants. You’re safest going with a vinyl floor, since it’s fully waterproof. However, premium engineered wood floors with a high-quality coating, like Royal Parquet or Swiss Hardwood, will be fine if messes are cleaned up promptly.
What floors make a good impression in living rooms and entertaining areas?
  • Engineered wood floors ideal for living rooms, or other areas where you entertain and are willing to invest in a premium surface. The top layer is a made from a stunning, solid hardwood like oak or walnut, creating a plush, authentic look and feel. The inner and layers are made from softwood, which prevents expansion and contraction during temperature and humidity swings – so the investment is well worth it and will adds long-term value to your home.
What are best flooring options for playrooms?
  • Playrooms are all about having fun, and so you don’t want a floor that’s going to get in the way of that. Choose a floor like Vinyl or SPC that is 100% waterproof, so you don’t have to stress immediately if any accidents happen. For a softer option, go with a polypropylene carpet – these are bleach-cleanable and dry rapidly.
Do you have flooring advice for tight halls and corridors?
  • For hallways and corridors, it’s best to use a narrow plank – since a wider plank will look out of proportion. It’s also advisable to lay the planks the planks horizontally, as this will make sure the space doesn’t feel shut in.

Design questions

Do you supply designer flooring options?
  • Our 2mm vinyl flooring can be easily cut and customised, so you can mix and match to build your ideal designer floor.
Should I choose wide or narrow wood floors?
  • There are two things to consider when choosing the width of wood floors – budget and room design.
  • Budget: wide single strip wood floors are cut from the centre of the log, meaning the planks are scarcer and more costly. If you want a wider floor on a budget, three strip wood floors, or laminate or vinyl reproductions, are good alternatives.
  • Room design: thin planks are generally used in small rooms to make them feel larger, while wide planks are used in larger rooms to enhance the open space. This is not a fixed rule though – wide planks in a small room create a rustic feeling, while thin planks complement modern design in large spaces.
What is the best floor colour for my room?
  • Light floor colours reflect light, while dark ones absorb light. Lighter floors are best when you want to make a room feel more open, and darker floors are great for creating a warm and cosy space.

  • Underlays are layers that are installed underneath vinyl, laminate and wood floors. They have several benefits, including moisture resistance, heat insulation and soundproofing. Overall, they improve the durability and comfort of flooring.
